It’s May 2017 and it’s time once more for The Roses Creative Awards!... Every year we sponsor this prestigious event, which recognises the creative talent emerging from top-drawer agencies outside the London bubble. It’s a privilege to be supporting and rewarding the creative industry in which we work, in a fabulous sector that is very close to our hearts.
Being an ex-Designer myself, it’s a great feeling witnessing award winning individuals & teams celebrating the fruits of their labour with passion and triumph. It is such a proud moment for everyone involved.
As well as our good friend Luce from LOVE Creative, we chose to invite two talented graduates from Shillington Design College to join our table. This is an amazing opportunity for them to see what it’s all about and experience first-hand what an amazing, rewarding & exciting industry they’ve just entered.

There is a nervous tension in the air at the foyer of The Midland Hotel in Manchester, as nominee’s and guests gather to see if their advertising, design & digital campaigns have been selected for a bronze, silver or gold trophy by the esteemed panel of judges. The gong strikes for dinner and the first lot of bubbles have been quaffed. Results time is getting closer. Guests quickly find their spaces from the table plan at the entrance and position themselves in the best vantage points in the room.
Lynn Lester (MD of The Drum Live Events) gives the opening speeches and regales the audience with some colourful Mancunian colloquialisms. The theme is “I Wanna Be Adored” by The Stone Roses – a nod to Manchester’s infamous creative music scene.
After dinner there’s the entertainment! A loan BeatBoxer extraodinaire gets everyone up & dancing before the awards have even started! Is this the end of the night? Have the awards passed me by without me noticing? Is THAT guy really THAT drunk already?! What a hoot!
Anyway, down to business… as mentioned we are proud sponsors of The Roses each year, so we have our duties to perform handing out awards for categories such as Best website, online video, online advert, illustration, animation, packaging, poster & integrated campaign. Lots of awards were presented to well known agencies such as BJL, Havas Lynx, McCann's, LOVE, TBWA and LEITH to name but a few.
As the evening powers on, the main hotly contended awards are just around the corner!... And the winners are!...

- The Grand Prix Award – LEITH for IRN-BRU Xtra, It Makes No Sense
A HUGE Congratulations to all the nominee’s and winners during the evening. It was a fantastic event and there were definitely a few sore heads the next day. Apparently I sang Tina Turner’s “River Deep Mountain High” at Charlie’s karaoke bar afterwards – but thankfully there is no evidence of this (phew!).
